Bronson Shonk is a Seattle based artist who integrates a diverse background of Science and Analytics into his practice. Pulling from these experiences he explores the nature of growth through the medium of painting.
Shonk graduated high school with an International Baccalaureate Diploma in the visual arts program. He attended the University of Vermont, studying Environmental Science and Studio Art. After graduation, he worked in the field of data visualization for five years and taught classes on topics ranging from query languages to data visualization. All the while he continued his practice of drawing in the mornings and evenings. In 2017 he left his job to work full time in the studio under the guidance of a mentor. Transitioning from drawing to painting he developed a unique rift on sgraffito painting. Shonk etches lines into a thick paste and stains the abrasions with pigment to create intricate markings that blur the line between drawing and painting.
